Suzuki GN400 Kick Start Thumper (Cornish) $700
I am selling my 1980 Suzuki GN400X. This is a kick start only 400cc Thumper. I have owned this motorcycle since 1997. I have the original VT title signed over to me and it is currently registered in NH with an antique plate ($12 yr). NH does not title vehicles more than 15 years old. It currently has 9K miles on it and I just had the 2012 NH inspection done. This is not a project. It is in great shape and ready to ride anywhere.
It needed new tires 5 years ago and I had other bikes so I stopped riding it until this spring. I have just mounted new front and rear tires, put on a new drive chain, replaced the rear brake shoes (front pads were fine), installed new fork seals, changed the oil, adjusted the valves and timing chain, cleaned the carburetor and have driven it 250 miles to makes sure every thing is in good shape. I have both original keys and owners manual and tool kit. The tank is nice, seat is perfect, everything works as it should. Chrome is great on the fenders. I love the thumper motor and know it would take me anywhere but a good deal on a Enfield Bullet came along and I need to sell this extremely reliable bike to buy one I expect to be much less reliable but more classic looking.
A big thumper like this is not for everyone. It starts and runs great. I almost always start it with one kick. But for that kick to work you have to follow a simple procedure (has an automatic compression release lever). It does not kick back and hurt you but if you so not set the piston in the right position it will not start. Why would anyone want one of these 1) Simplicity - one cylinder, one carb, one spark plug, one coil (no points) 2) Light weight (300 lbs) 3) Economy - at least 65mpg unless you flog it 4) Lots of pep because 27HP only has to move you and 300 lbs. Check the web to learn more if you are not familiar with them.
I just spent a lot of time plus $300 to make this bike nice and ready to go anywhere so the price is firm. Cash only. Let me hold the cash and you can take as long a test ride as you want. I have driven it down to MA many times and would ride it anywhere to deliver it but that would cost extra. I patched the muffler and painted it black. It should last a good while but eventually you will need a new one. Plenty on ebay. I would pick up an extra headlight. It has the original and both beams work but they are not common so I would have an extra handy. It is a 6V system but the lights are bright. It starts and runs fine with a dead battery. The current battery is okay but not new.

This is a nice, strong running bike and the only reason for selling is that I would like to upgrade this year. This is not one of those beat up bikes.
