The 1960's Mustangs
1963 - Henry Ford decides to design an affordable sportscar for every American.
The Mustang was to be built on the Ford Falcon's unibody platform. The goal for the designers was to make a car that looked different than any other before it.1964 - On April 17th the Mustang tradition was started with a price tag of $2,320. The Mustang's performance rumors was boosted by its selection as the "Official Pace Car" for the 1964 Indy 500. Ford assemblemed approximately 230 pace car Mustangs including 35 convertibles and 190 hardtops. The convertibles were made a little differently. Actual pace cars had 289-cubic-inch "K" engines (not available to the public until June 1964) and four-barrel, with manual transmissions. The 35 "showcars" had 289-cubic-inch four barrel "D" engines. The hardtop Pace cars were all the same. They had the 260-cubic-inch V-8 engine with two-barrel carbeurator, automatic transmission and power steering.

- 170-cubic-inch,101-horsepower six
- 260-cubic-inch, 164-horsepower V-8, with a two barrel carbeurator
- 289-cubic-inch, 210 horsepower V-8, with a four barrel carb.
The Mustang had become very popular and by ts birthday on april 17, 1965, the Mustang set a new world's record of over 418,000 sales for a new model.

1966 - The Honeycomb grille is lost and replaced by a multi-bar grille. Each car is given
a three pronged chrome ornament that sit in the c-shaped rear wind scoop. A round speedometer was a new item that recorded up to 140 mph!1967 - A whole new body styling was in the works this year. The flat back end was changed to a concave rear with tail lights that followed the shape. A 320 horsepower, 390 cid Holley carburetor V8 is the most powerful block option this year. This Mustang is larger 2.5 inches taller and .5 inches wider. Also, it's the last year engines would come from the assembly plants without smog pumps.
